Out on Boolardy Station is an area for SKA – the Square Kilometre Array of antennae – in Wadjarri named ‘Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara’ meaning ‘Sharing the Sky and Stars’. For Wadjarri people we look to the stars to see when the best time is to hunt. Now, in late April, the dark part of the Milky Way is coming in to form an emu shape, its’ long neck to the right. Then we know it’s time to go hunting for emu eggs. We cook them up and have a big feed, of cakes ‘n all.’
