Product Description
This is a portrait of my great aunt Violet Taylor (nee Latham) who worked as a servant and slave for her white father Francis Arthur Latham. He was a surveyor for Lord Forrest. From the age of 11 till she was in her early 20’s she cooked, cleaned and kept house for her father but was considered his servant until she was married to a white man by the name of James Taylor. Behind her body is gold covered over by symbols of bush fires, jardi (goanna) everlasting flowers and emu tracks.
